The Petroleum Employees Union is one of the major trade union in oil and gas industry in India, which is affiliated with Indian National Trade Union congress (INTUC) and National Federation of Petroleum workers of India (NFPW). PEU was registered in the year 1954 under the leadership of late shri Rajabhau kulkarni, who had become the president of our union from the registration of the union till his demise on 30-03-2008.
Unit of Petroleum Employees Union was established in ONGC in the year 1978 under the leadership of Shri Kulkarni. Our union was recognized by the ONGC Management in 1980 and from there on, excepting for a short period, PEU had remained as the recognized union in ONGC and had achieved a lot of facilities and improvement in wages and service conditions from time to time and all the credit goes to the efforts of Petroleum Employees key members and our ONGC employees who are supporting PEU since 1980.
Petroleum Employees Union has AIMS: To secure speedy improvement of conditions of work and life and of the status of the workers in industry and society, to obtain various measures of social security, including adequate provision in respect of accidents, maternity, sickness, old age and unemployment. To regulate hours and other work conditions of the workers, to ensure proper enforcement of legislation for the protection and up-liftmen of labour, and also to establish peaceful industrial relations.
We secure a living wage for every worker in normal employment and bring about a progressive improvement in workers standard of living and also to secure redressal of grievances without stoppage of work by means of negotiations, conciliation or by arbitrations and also raise the standard of efficiency and discipline of workers.
We are committed to job protection of all of our employees and as well as to foster the spirit of service, brotherhood co-operation and mutual help among the workers, and to develop a sense of responsibility among the workers towards the industry and community. We the Petroleum Employees Union have strongly protested the anti-people policies of liberalization and privatization. The important issue before trade union movement in the country is attacking on trade union right, right to strike, right to reduction of social security, right to collective bargaining, pro-employer retrograde changes in the labour law, closer of industrial units casualization / in-formalization of employment etc. We the Petroleum Employees Union are committed and shall always remain ahead to face any type of issues positively.
